New Jersey Visiting Nurse Association Announces Community Flu Clinics
(PRWEB) September 09, 2015 -- As part of Visiting Nurse Association of Northern New Jersey’s (VNA) commitment to community health and wellness, flu shots will be available every Thursday beginning on October, 8th and ending on November, 12th from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at VNA's New Jersey headquarters located at 175 South Street in Morristown.
Every year, an average of 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications. A flu shot can help prevent the discomfort, inconvenience and potential medical complications associated with influenza. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an annual seasonal flu vaccine (either the flu shot or the nasal spray flu vaccine) is the best way to reduce the chances that you will get seasonal flu and spread it to others. When more people get vaccinated against the flu, less flu can spread through that community.
The following Influenza Prevention Tips will help to protect yourself and others from influenza:
• Take time to get the seasonal influenza vaccine!
• Frequently wash your hands with soap and water.
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throw tissue away immediately.
• Eat well and get enough rest. Avoid getting "run down" which can lower your immunity to illness.
• Avoid touching your nose, mouth and eyes. Germs spread this way.
• Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
“VNA is dedicated to ensuring the health and well-being of our community. The flu vaccine program is one of many community-based programs that VNA offers which furthers the agency’s mission of helping people stay in their home with dignity, health and independence,” said Amanda DeFelice, VNA’s Development Manager.
Flu shots will be available for adults, 18 years or older, and cost $25 per vaccine; cash, check and Medicare Part B reimbursement will be accepted. No appointment is necessary. Free on-site parking is available and accessible off James Street and Madison Street. Contact Maura Mooney at 973-451-4119 or mmooney(at)vnannj(dot)org for more information about the Community Flu Clinics or if you’re interested in having VNA provide an on-site flu clinic for your Morris County based organization.
