International Volunteer Enjoys a Unique African Adventure While Volunteering in Uganda
Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) August 31, 2015 -- International volunteer programs have gained popularity in recent years due, in part, to the numerous benefits gained during such an experience. Not only does it provide one with an exciting cultural adventure, it also offers the opportunity to learn and contribute globally. By living and working side by side with locals, it provides an excellent opportunity to interact with the community in a far deeper way than any tourist experience. Recently, an international volunteer from Switzerland decided to volunteer abroad through CrossContinental.org and fulfill her dream of helping African orphans. In the attached video (https://youtu.be/MAGsgGVP6WY), she shared her experience.
- Uganda: Jewel of Africa
Switzerland native Amadea Bleisch first heard of Cross-Continental Solutions through a friend who had previously completed a volunteer abroad program in China. She decided to have such an experience for herself in Uganda, Africa. Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa with many pleasures to offer travelers, such as a rich culture, abundant wildlife (including endangered gorillas and chimpanzees), white river rafting from the source of the Nile River, and the majestic lake Victoria.
- Orphanage Project in Kampala
Amadea had mainly positive things to say concerning her orphanage work in Kampala. The orphanage itself housed orphans ranging in age from new born to 6 years old. Amadea’s typical duties included feeding orphans, cleaning, teaching, assisting with office work, and the supervised administration of medicine. It provided her with a great opportunity to help the community and bond with the children. Amadea says, "The orphanage has the perfect site and the kids are adorable."
- The Local Support Network
Traveling to an exotic local is not for the faint of heart, and volunteers traveling find the experience much more manageable due in large part to the local support network provided by CrossContinental.org. A typical local support network consists of at least one local coordinator and a host family that help the volunteers abroad so that they don't have to fend for themselves. At the home-stay, accommodation is provided and meals are prepared for participants while they experience the foreign culture firsthand. Speaking of her local support system, Amadea reports, "The local coordinator's, and the host family’s, service was amazing. It could not have been better."
- The Team at CrossContinental.org
Just after arrival, when the international coordinator at CrossContinental's head office checked in to see how Amadea was adjusting, she exclaimed, "I'm having an amazing time here in Uganda. Thank you for organizing all of this." And by the end of the program, Amadea left positive feedback for the entire CrossContinental team.. She beams, "I'm 100% happy. It was a great experience and I would do it again without any doubt." She continues, "There is not one specific experience that was better than the others. These 3 weeks are like a song, it's all together that makes it perfect."
