VR Jetpack Game by pftq - Multiplayer VR with Full Freedom of Flight
SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) December 30, 2018 -- A new and upcoming VR Jetpack Game is being developed under Autodidactic Studios, a subsidiary of Autodidactic I. The creator, who goes by the online moniker pftq, was formerly known for creating mods in games like Age of Mythology and Age of Empires III during his teenage years. Since then, he's gone on to build an autonomous trading system called Tech Trader and also founded the aformentioned Autodidactic company and its subsidiaries.
The new VR Jetpack Game began development in April 2018 as pftq's first significant return to game development and first experience with Unreal Engine 4. A fully functional prototype was finished within the initial two months, complete with full-motion VR in multiplayer.
One of the more unique aspects of the game is its freedom of motion in VR. Due to the game and its flight mechanics being entirely physics driven, many playtesters have reported feeling no nausea or disorientation typically associated with other VR experiences. In addition, most have needed little-to-no instruction due to the intuitive and physics-driven controls. It is truly free motion and natural movement, not the teleport, D-pad controls, or pre-assigned track of many VR games. This includes being able to hover, drift, spin, flip, and burst through the sky without ever hitting any special buttons; everything is based on the position and angle of your controllers just like if you had a jetpack in real life.
The most exciting feature is the combat experience, which combines that of a first person shooter / battle royale genre with the freedom VR provides to look in a different direction than where you're shooting or traveling, wield multiple weapons in both hands, dodge, duck, fly, etc.
The game has now moved on to more traditional stages of development, such as level design, polishing, and replacing stock assets with unique graphics/sound. The aim is to have at least a demo or early access release available some time in 2019. More open and public playtesting is expected in the months to come as well. The game will support major VR headsets with controllers on PC and other platforms supported by Unreal Engine.
