“I would like the reader to have a better understanding of global politics on the eve of colonialism.”

During his lifetime, Constantine Phaulkon deceived two kings and a pope. The thrilling life of the 17th century Greek explorer is now the subject of Walter J. Strach III’s exciting new novel, “The Phaulkon Legacy” (published by iUniverse).

Sent in both the 17th century and present day, Strach’s novel follows Phaulkon as he travels to Siam and befriends King Narai. The king appoints him to the position of foreign minister of trade, and Phaulkon sails back to Europe. By telling exotic stories of Southeast Asia, he convinces European powers to go to Siam to govern towns and the French king, Louis XIV, to send troops as reinforcements. With the help of King Narai, Phaulkon convinces the Society of Jesuits that Siam is about to become a Jesuit state. By the end of his life, Phaulkon has acquired a vast wealth, but after his death, it disappears without a trace.

In the present day, Theo Papadopoulos and his friend Dylan Montgomery are trying to track down Phaulkon’s missing treasure. As the two learn more and more about Phaulkon, they uncover one of the greatest mysteries never solved.

Carefully researched, “The Phaulkon Legacy” takes readers on a historical adventure that has been ignored for so long, though the effects of colonialism are still being seen today. Strach says, “I would like the reader to have a better understanding of global politics on the eve of colonialism.”
