WellCare Opens Welcome Room in Jackson Heights, NY
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) September 23, 2013 -- WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG), a leading provider of managed care services for government-sponsored health care programs, recently celebrated the grand opening of its Jackson Heights, N.Y., Welcome Room serving the borough of Queens.
WellCare’s Welcome Rooms are neighborhood health care information, education and sales centers that are open to the public and staffed by WellCare associates who can answer questions about Medicare, Medicaid and Managed Long Term Care health plans. The staff is fluent in the languages most prevalent in the area.
“Queens is one of the most diverse areas in the country, with more than 138 languages spoken in Jackson Heights alone,” said John Burke, interim state president, WellCare of New York. “We are proud to serve the people of this community and look forward to helping them access the services and information they need to lead better and healthier lives.”
During the grand opening, WellCare hosted local leaders, including State Assemblyman Francisco Moya (D – New York) and Former State Assemblywoman Melinda Katz (D – New York). WellCare also presented a $2,500 donation to the 82nd Street Partnership for its efforts to improve people’s quality of life and promote economic activity in Jackson Heights and Elmhurst, Queens.
“The 82nd Street Partnership has made a commitment to working with residents, businesses, government authorities and community leaders to improve our neighborhoods and promote growth,” said Seth Taylor, executive director of 82nd Street Partnership. “We welcome WellCare’s support and are grateful for their commitment to helping us succeed in making a positive difference in our community.”
“This is a rapidly growing community in ever greater need of services, including quality health care,” said State Senator Jose Peralta (D – New York). “WellCare’s Welcome Room is a valuable and needed new resource that will help address health care disparities historically endured in minority areas in terms of quality and access.”
