WellCare Employees Join American Red Cross Disaster Action Teams In Florida
TAMPA, Fla. (PRWEB) October 24, 2013 -- WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG) today announced a new initiative with the American Red Cross to assist Floridians during times of need. As part of this initiative, 40 WellCare employees have volunteered to be trained to join local disaster action teams across the state to help respond to community emergencies.
“WellCare’s employees are passionate about helping people and communities,” said David McNichols, state president, WellCare of Florida. “We thank the American Red Cross for providing us with an opportunity to serve our members and communities in a meaningful way.”
American Red Cross disaster action teams are on call around the clock, responding to emergencies including house fires, floods, tornadoes and hurricanes, with first-responder support. They help fulfill immediate needs, such as food, clothing, toiletry supplies and shelter. Volunteers also bring hope and help people begin planning for their recovery.
“We are excited to have WellCare employees join our American Red Cross disaster action teams,” said Linda Carbone, CEO of the American Red Cross for Florida's West Coast Region. “Our community is fortunate to have a compassionate neighbor who is willing to put their concerns into action.”
Volunteers constitute about 95 percent of the American Red Cross workforce, and those volunteers make it possible to respond to nearly 70,000 disasters across the country each year. To find out about volunteering in your community, visit http://www.redcross.org/support/volunteer/.
