WellCare’s Medicare Prescription Drug Plans Offer Enhanced Value in 2014
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) October 10, 2013 -- WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG) has enhanced its Medicare Prescription Drug Plans to offer members greater value in 2014. WellCare’s plans are specifically designed to meet the medication needs of cost-conscious seniors and dual-eligible beneficiaries.
One way the company is helping to drive down costs is with the introduction of a preferred retail pharmacy network. Members selecting a WellCare preferred retail pharmacy will have a reduced co-pay when filling prescriptions. This network includes Duane Reade, Kmart, Sam’s Club, Walgreens and Walmart.
Additionally, members can use the company’s preferred mail-order pharmacy, Exactus Pharmacy Solutions, which offers $0 co-pays for Tier 1 medications and significant savings on many other prescriptions. With Exactus, members can receive refill reminders and enjoy the convenience of never having to drive to the pharmacy or wait in line for prescriptions.
Eligible members also have access to WellCare’s Healthy Living Program, which identifies members who are at the greatest risk of experiencing a medication therapy problem and provides them with education and information to prevent medication-related side effects and ways to lead healthier lives. A team of pharmacy professionals help members safely and effectively use their prescribed medications, better manage their disease states and take greater control of their health.
“Our goal is to deliver benefits and services in a way that enhances our members’ health and quality of life,” said Laura Hungiville, vice president, pharmacy services. “We do that in part through low premiums, no deductibles, strong customer support, our medication therapy management program, and options like a preferred pharmacy network and mail order service.”
For 2014, WellCare’s Prescription Drug Plans offer:
• $0 annual deductible
• $0 co-pay on Tier 1 prescriptions at preferred pharmacies
• A preferred pharmacy network that includes Duane Reade, Kmart, Sam’s Club, Walgreens and Walmart
• A network of more than 60,000 pharmacies nationwide
• An average premium of $21.41 per month (range: $12.80 to $30.30) for WellCare’s Classic Plan
• An average premium of $54.31 per month (range: $44.60 to $58.60) for WellCare’s Extra Plan
For 2014, WellCare’s Classic Plan bid is below the benchmarks in 30 of the 33 Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regions for which the company submitted bids. As a result, CMS will auto-assign low-income subsidy Medicare eligibles to WellCare’s Classic Plan in these regions. The 30 regions include 12 states in which WellCare also offers Medicare Advantage plans. As of June 30, 2013, WellCare serves approximately 772,000 Medicare Prescription Drug Plan members in 49 states and the District of Columbia.
