Merit Scholarships to Be Awarded at West Sound Academy's Annual Events for Prospective Students
Poulsbo, WA (PRWEB) November 30, 2013 -- West Sound Academy (WSA), an independent International Baccalaureate World School, located in Poulsbo, Washington holds two annual scholarship events for prospective students. This year Middle School Scholarship Day is set for December 7, 2013 and Founder’s Scholarship Day takes place February 8, 2014. These are opportunities for students and families to experience a day in the life of a West Sound student as well as be considered for a merit-based scholarship. The Middle School event is for students new to West Sound Academy currently in Grades 5-7; Founders Scholarship Day is for those in Grades 8-11.
Barrie Hillman, West Sound Academy's Head of School explains, “At WSA, we focus on the growth, engagement and well-being of each student while fostering strong teacher-student-family relationships. Every year it is so exciting to award scholarships to qualified students who have demonstrated a natural curiosity and enthusiasm in school.”
Students who participate in these scholarship events will spend half a day in shortened classes meeting teachers, interacting with fellow students and doing various activities related to the subject matter of the course. After the student’s application process is complete, a committee will make awards ranging from $1,000 to $6,000 to each student. Admissions Director, Lisa Gsellman adds, “Spending this day allows the student to learn about the safe and respectful community at West Sound Academy and for parents to come to an informed decision about the educational options available for their children.”
Scholarships differ from financial aid in that once the award is made the student receives the same award for every year they are enrolled as long as they maintain a 3.0 GPA. Students awarded merit-based scholarships are also eligible to apply for financial assistance, which is awarded on an annual basis.
“There is a right school for every child but not every child can succeed in every school and this is the reason behind independent schools,” adds Hillman, “West Sound Academy graduates accomplished, creative, intellectually curious young adults prepared to contribute responsibly to the world because of our strong academics, qualified instructional staff and diverse international community.”
Families interested in either scholarship event can contact Gsellman at 360-598-5954 or lgsellman(at)westsoundacademy(dot)org.
