Village Halloween Parade

Where: 6th Avenue from Spring Street to 16th Street
Call: 845-758-5519

According to a Harris Poll conducted in 2011, Christmas and Thanksgiving are still American’s favorite holidays. Sliding in at number 3 is Halloween. Of course, for many people, nothing can top the chance to dress up in outrageous costumes, and nowhere are the costumes as creative as at this event in New York.

Anyone who wants to participate in the parade is invited to do so as long as they are in costume. While any costume will gain entrance to the parade, the more creative and artistic the costume, the better. This 40-year-old parade seems to have a way to draw out the creative, dramatic, and sometimes comical. As a result, the costumes that march down 6th Avenue are unforgettable.

The 2012 Village Halloween Parade had to be canceled due to Superstorm Sandy. For 2013, the event is coming back even bigger. More than 50 bands along with puppets, dancers and artists will participate in the parade along with about 50,000 costumed revelers. The 2013 parade will celebrate the spirit of volunteerism and honor those who went above and beyond to help others who were impacted by the storm.

In addition to the masses that will take part in the parade, thousands more will line the streets to watch this iconic New York event.
