MILWAUKEE (PRWEB) July 12, 2019
Efforts to make a transition to renewable energy and higher energy efficiency have encountered significant political and public resistance. The Trump administration announced this year that they will roll back two key policies established by the previous administration, the Clean Power Plan and Fuel Economy Standards. Additionally, the state Supreme Court in Illinois blocked efforts to establish transmission networks to transmit wind power from Iowa to Illinois. In a session “Energy Market and Regulations” happening at the 2019 AAEA Annual Meeting, 3 presenters will discuss the rationale for these policy changes and their distributional and environmental implications.
Madhu Khanna from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a presenter in this sessions will explore “Repeal of the Clean Power Plan: Who Gains and Who Loses?” Gaurav Doshi and Xiaodong (Sheldon) Du from the University of Wisconsin-Madison drill into the “Effect of Transmission Integration on Prices on Congestion Revenue Rights: Evidence from the Texas Electricity Market.” Chi Ta from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will speak on “Costs of Energy Efficiency Mandates Can Reverse the Sign of Rebound” as well as “What Drives the Effects of Renewable Portfolio Standards on Emissions and Renewable Deployment?: Theory and Empirical Analysis.”
