“A number of benefits can be achieved by going paperless: it helps reduce business costs associated with paper, printers, copiers and fax machines, while eliminating filing cabinets to increase office space,” said Angela Davis, WMH patient access director.
WILLIAMSON, W.V. (PRWEB) August 22, 2019
Williamson Memorial Hospital (WMH) will officially celebrate its 100th anniversary on Oct. 3. It’s an impressive milestone for any health care organization but especially for community hospitals like WMH, which statistics show are closing at an alarming rate.
As the 50-bed hospital reflects on its long-standing role in the community, it’s also taking steps to ensure it’s equipped to serve the residents of the Tug Valley Area for the next 100 years. The healthcare provider recently implemented MEDITECH as a Service (MaaS), a web-based electronic health record.
MaaS is MEDITECH’s answer to health systems wanting the advantages of a modern, sophisticated EHR without the burden of heavy IT responsibilities and hardware maintenance.
The hospital also implemented a paperless registration process. Patients will be able to electronically sign all documents through the MaaS-integrated Access eForms solutions technology. This means significant paper and cost savings for WMH, while also providing a much better patient experience.
“A number of benefits can be achieved by going paperless: it helps reduce business costs associated with paper, printers, copiers and fax machines, while eliminating filing cabinets to increase office space,” said Angela Davis, WMH patient access director. “We can conduct business more efficiently resulting in faster responses to patients. Having a paperless system allows for efficiency for our patients and clients, which is very important. You can easily and securely provide and receive documents that are needed in a much shorter time span while also assisting other patient care needs.”
Registration is a patient’s first encounter with a provider and sets the tone for the entire visit. With Access, WMH staff members can quickly collect, manage and share registration information – without printing or scanning forms – so they can focus on patient care instead of paperwork.
“For a century, WMH has been a fixture in the community focused on improving the quality of life for residents,” said Cody Strate, Access vice president of innovation. “Now when patients walk through the hospital doors, they’ll be greeted by a paperless process instead of a stack of forms to sign. It’s the type of patient experience and the standard of care that residents of Mingo County and the surrounding communities deserve.”
