Local Wilton Runners the “Wilton Cure-iors” Finish as Top Fundraising Team in 2013 Million Mile Run for National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) October 18, 2013 -- Inspira Marketing Group announced the Wilton Cure-iors are the number one fundraising team in this year’s Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation’s Million Mile Run raising more than $60,000 for pediatric cancer research, tripling its original fundraising goal of $20,000. Each family or individual member of the Wilton Cure-iors pledged to walk or run 100 miles during September’s National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The team logged more than 8,200 miles finishing fourth overall in mileage among 829 teams from 18 countries, all 50 states, Washington, DC, and Puerto Rico. Total participation in the international event exceeded 225,000 miles logged and raised nearly $500,000 collectively.
“I am both inspired and amazed by teams like the Wilton Cure-iors and the effort they put into the Million Mile Run. Equally amazing and generous are companies like Inspira and LogicSource who put up matching dollars,” said Jay Scott, Foundation Co-Executive Director and father to Alexandra “Alex” Scott who set out to raise $1 million through lemonade stands in 2004. “I like to tell people that we never know which research dollar is going to find that new cure for these kids who need a cure so badly.”
Inspira Marketing Group and LogicSource, both based in Norwalk, CT, have presented checks totaling $16,500.00 to support the Wilton Cure-iors. The local companies teamed up to each pledge $1 for every mile a member of the Wilton Cure-iors Team ran or walked.
“There were so many highs along this 8,000 mile journey. It was just incredible how engaged, involved and giving people have been. It was a great opportunity for families to get together and be a part of something bigger,” said Jeff Snyder, founder and Chief Inspiration Officer at Inspira Marketing Group who personally ran over 200 miles for the fundraiser. Snyder’s daughter, Kennedy, has been battling cancer for a decade. “We have been living in the Wilton area for the last ten years and have been continually blown away by the outreach and support of the people here. This challenge was incredible because it allowed them to be a part of Kennedy’s path and the paths of all children fighting cancer. I’m so proud of everyone who participated.”
