Fully-online schools require parents to make a dedicated commitment to be involved in their child’s education and are an excellent option for many students who are looking for an enriching and fulfilling education.
Appleton, Wisconsin (PRWEB) February 12, 2014
Enrollment for the 2014-2015 school year is officially underway at Wisconsin Connections Academy, the virtual public school serving students from across the state in grades K-12. Parents and students who are interested in learning more about virtual education are encouraged to attend one of the upcoming in-person or online information sessions. For students to be eligible for the upcoming school year, parents must complete the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction application before April 30.
Wisconsin Connections Academy is an online public school that students attend from home. The school provides an individualized approach to learning with public school teachers licensed through the Appleton Area School District. The program provides a quality education that includes a proven curriculum, technology tools, and active educational experiences, both online and in-person, creating an environment that supports children who want to learn at their own pace and have a flexible, personalized learning schedule.
Nationwide, a record number of K-12 students are getting their public educations virtually: more than 300,000 K-12 students in the U.S. attended school virtually during the 2012–13 school year, according to the latest Keeping Pace with K-12 Online and Blended Learning report. In Wisconsin, online charter schools served 6,146 students in the 2012-13 school year, a 37 percent increase from the prior year according to the report.
Wisconsin Connections Academy is hosting free information sessions for parents to learn more about the high-quality online program. At the information sessions, parents and students will have an opportunity to learn about the school’s curriculum, interact with faculty and with other families interested in online learning. For those unable to attend an in-person information session, real-time interactive online sessions with a school representative are available, as well as an on-demand session available 24/7. Interested families may also attend Parent-to-Parent meetings for the opportunity to speak with current Wisconsin Connections Academy families in a more casual setting. A complete list of upcoming information sessions and a link to the on-demand session are available on the school’s website: http://www.ConnectionsAcademy.com/WCAevents.
Principal of Wisconsin Connections Academy Michelle Mueller encourages families who are interested in virtual school to attend an information session to learn if online schooling is the best fit for their students.
“Our goal is to allow parents and students to gain information about virtual schooling, learn what they can expect and how they can help support their student’s educational success,” Mueller said. “Fully-online schools require parents to make a dedicated commitment to be involved in their child’s education and are an excellent option for many students who are looking for an enriching and fulfilling education beyond the traditional brick and mortar options.”
Wisconsin Connections Academy meets rigorous state standards for academic excellence. According to the 2013 Connections Academy Parent Satisfaction Survey, 97 percent of parents agree that the curriculum is high quality and 93 percent would recommend the school to other families.
