MIAMI – Each person has some kind of attitude or concept of life. Many times this attitude or concept could become one’s epitaph at the end of life. Therefore, one might find many different answers to the question “How do you see your life?”

“Words to Live By”, written by Dr. Willie E. Williams, is an inspiring collection of words and sayings on life’s metaphors. These unspoken metaphors may influence life more than one realizes. They determine expectations, values, relationships, goals, successes, and priorities. Through his work with teachers around the world, and the way that he was taught, Williams learned that teaching by metaphors can be very effective in helping to connect the key elements of “who I am”, “where I work”, and “how I teach.”

These metaphors, selected after careful analysis of his teaching practice (with its context revised and updated) based on an ongoing reevaluation of his work, are uniquely his own and are connected to his understanding of his work as a teacher and himself. They serve as lenses that allow for imaginative expression of his professional and personal self while also ensuring a connection to and a critical examination of his teaching practice. They grew from within him based on his own understanding of who, where and how he is. They have been collected over time and have not been characterized according to kind, source, or author, but by accumulation and number.

Readers will also find in this book some of Williams’ favorite poems, sayings, and some Bible chapters that he has committed to memory to enhance his knowledge and inspire him with some of the things that he learned and teach. From his education, teaching, army experience and life as a public speaker, Dr. Willie E. Williams’ “Words to Live By” is indeed an educational, thought-provoking and motivational read that relates to how words are used to accumulate and recall knowledge.
