World Patent Marketing Seeks to Create a Secondary Market for Patent Liquidations

Our plan is to create some liquidity in the marketplace for asset holders that want to liquidate. We are warning the market that we are not going to be paying top dollar for these assets but we do believe there is some money being left on the table."

World Patent Marketing, a vertically integrated manufacturer and distributor of patented products, announces plans to create a secondary market for patents. Earlier this year, the first Intellectual Property Exchange ceased operations due to the market obstacles that their business model was facing. It was the first financial exchange to facilitate non-exclusive licensing and trading of intellectual property rights with market-based pricing and standardized terms. They had hoped that the initiative would bring more liquidity and transparency into the IP market. They were wrong.

"Odds are stacked astronomically against patents becoming commercially viable and the odds against a transparent patent exchange is even more remote. Every market is not meant to be a perfect market," said Scott J. Cooper, CEO and Creative Director of World Patent Marketing, "Many patent holders have been sitting on the sidelines for years and have been unable to monetize their intellectual property. Our plan is to create some liquidity in the marketplace for asset holders that want to liquidate. We are warning the market that we are not going to be paying top dollar for these assets, but we do believe there is some money being left on the table for everyone to benefit."

A perfect market is defined by certain conditions whereby creating perfect competition. Among these conditions are perfect market information, the absence of a dominant player with enough market power to dictate prices, no government intervention, and limited barriers to entry.

"A transparent patent market is not realistic," said Cattya Bella, Director of Product Development of World Patent Marketing, "Very few markets or industries in the real world are perfectly competitive. A patent is based on the premise of exclusive rights and technological advance. This is a system least likely to be transparent. The best we can hope for are companies like ours to create a bottom for the market."
