Tennessee Auto Accident Attorney at Meade Injury Law Group Comments on Recent Series of Wrong-Way Car Accidents on I-40 In Knoxville
Johnson City, TN (PRWEB) February 27, 2014 -- A news report stated four wrong-way car accidents occurred last year on the same stretch of Interstate-40 in Knoxville, Tennessee, prompting Tennessee personal injury lawyer Mac Meade of Meade Injury Law Group to warn drivers to use extreme caution at highway exits and on-ramps in Tennessee.
Meade commented on an Associated Press report published in NewsChannel5.com about the four separate wrong-way accidents on I-40 in Knoxville. (“Stretch of I-40 Prone To Wrong-Way Crashes,” Dec. 28).
“No drivers expect to encounter another vehicle traveling in the wrong direction when they get on or off a highway,” Meade said. “Unfortunately, as this news report makes clear, car accidents like these happen far more often than people might realize. We have seen wrong-way car accident cases in our office, and know how devastating these types of crashes can be for families. With so much at stake, it’s critical for drivers to remain alert to everything going on around them when they’re driving in Tennessee.”
A fatal wrong-way accident on I-40 in Knoxville occurred on Dec. 21, 2013, according to NewsChannel5.com. The other three fatal wrong-way accidents on this same stretch of highway occurred in March, August and November of last year. All four victims were men in their 20s and all four accidents occurred at night, NewsChannel5.com reported.
Police said the drivers traveled a significant distance before encountering other traffic, NewsChannel5.com reported. Alcohol was a factor in “some” of the four fatal accidents, according to the report.
Meade said he was not surprised to read that alcohol played a role in some of the fatal car accidents. “Unfortunately, many drivers don’t think twice about driving drunk in Tennessee,” Meade said. “And many drivers don’t realize how dangerous fatigued driving can be. We urge all drivers to take responsibility. Make the right choice. Don’t drive drunk or when you’re too tired. Too many innocent people are being seriously injured or worse because of such reckless behavior.”
Meade said attorneys can pursue compensation for injury victims and families who lost loved ones in accidents. He said a lawyer can hold the negligent individual accountable and help send a message that careless or reckless behavior won’t be tolerated on Tennessee roads.
