Admirable Oso Tragedy Response From Western Washington Medical Group and Mill Creek Country Club Accounted in Recent Article
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) July 09, 2014 -- A recent demonstration of community care has gone mostly unnoticed. When the news of the Oso Tragedy, a mudslide that occurred four miles east of Oso, reached the western Washington community, Western Washington Medical Group was quick to respond.
Last month on June 1st, Western Washington Medical Group partnered with Mill Creek Country Club (MCCC), holding a fundraiser to raise donations to support the Oso tragedy response efforts.
“Western Washington Medical Group (WWMG) has always believed in providing compassionate care for the community, so when the Oso tragedy occurred, it didn’t take long for the providers and staff there to find creative ways to collect supplies and raise money for the survivors,” says Judy Gregerson, WWMG Marketing Coordinator.
When WWMG’s CEO, Jerry Tilliger, contacted MCCC general manager, Cory Carper, he didn’t expect Mr. Carper to leap onto the bandwagon and tackle a fundraising effort that had never been done before.
During the fundraiser, “Free golf carts and green fees were provided by the club to all players who donated $100 to the Oso Mudslide Trust Account at Coastal Community Bank,” Gregerson explains. At the end of the day, “MCCC had raised over $8,800 for the Oso fund.”
Western Washington Medical Group was deeply concerned by the Oso Tragedy. Several of their longtime patients were injured or even lost their lives during the mudslide disaster.
Gregerson reports that, “Staff from WWMG donated four large loads of blankets, clothing, food items, and dog and cat food, as well as many other items in demand including over $600 in cash and gas/credit cards. The Orthopedic department brought five truckloads of goods, and Marysville Family Medicine also made a contribution.”
The community focus and sacrificial care shown by Western Washington Medical Group and Mill Creek Country Club are exemplary demonstrations of how local communities can support each other during times of tragedy and loss.
