Xarelto Lawsuit Filed by Florida Woman Alleges Uncontrollable Bleeding Led to Husband’s Death, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 22, 2014 -- A Florida woman has filed a Xarelto lawsuit (http://www.xareltolawsuitcenter.com/ ) that alleges the death of her husband was the result of uncontrollable internal bleeding caused by the blood thinner, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to her complaint, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida on June 23rd, the decedent began taking Xarelto in January 2012, and suffered a subdural hemorrhage the following June. Despite emergency treatment, his doctors were unable to stop the bleeding, and he died on June 28, 2012. Among other things, the complaint alleges that the manufacturers of the blood thinner did not adequately warn of the irreversible nature of Xarelto bleeding. (Case 0:14-cv-61448-JAL)
“Our Firm has received a number of inquiries from individuals who claim to have experienced Xarelto complications similar to those cited in this lawsuit. We will be monitoring this growing litigation closely,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering Xarelto case reviews to people who allegedly have suffered serious injuries from the blood thinner, including uncontrollable bleeding, strokes, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.
Xarelto Bleeding Allegations
According to the Florida Xarelto lawsuit, the medication is one of a new class of blood thinners known as direct thrombin inhibitors. The drug was launched on the U.S. market in 2011 by Johnson & Johnson and Bayer HealthCare, and was positioned as an improvement over decades-old warfarin. Like all blood thinners, Xarelto can sometimes cause patients to experience internal bleeding. However, while bleeding from warfarin can be stopped via the administration of vitamin K, the lawsuit points out that there is no readily available antidote for Xarelto bleeding.
According to a recent Reuters report, the Florida claim is just one of several lawsuits pending in U.S. courts that involve Xarelto. Bayer and Johnson & Johnson have acknowledged at least 10 such filings. *
Last month, the Institute for Safe Medicine Practices (ISMP) also reported that adverse events associated with the use of Xarelto are on the rise. According to data from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), the agency received a total of 680 Xarelto adverse event reports in the first quarter of 2013. For the first time, reports of Xarelto complications outpaced those associated with Pradaxa, another blood thinner in the same class, according to the ISMP.**
Individuals who were allegedly harmed by Xarelto may be entitled to compensation for their injury-related damages, including medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.
