New York, New York (PRWEB) August 17, 2014 -- As Xarelto lawsuits http://www.xareltolawsuitcenter.com/) continue to mount in U.S. courts, Bernstein Liebhard LLP notes the publication of a new study which suggests that brain bleeds associated with the use of the blood thinner are difficult to reverse. The research, which was published August 1st in the Journal of Neurosurgery, looked at a number of anticoagulants, and found that Xarelto has a short half-life, requiring doctors to act more quickly to manage brain bleeds. The study also found that dialysis is not an effective way to reverse Xarelto bleeding. *
“The findings of this study echo allegations put forth in a number of Xarelto lawsuits regarding the irreversible nature of the internal bleeding that can sometimes accompany use of this drug,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering Xarelto case reviews to people who allegedly suffered serious injuries from the blood thinner, including uncontrollable bleeding, strokes, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.
Xarelto Bleeding Allegations
Like all blood thinners, Xarelto can sometimes cause patients to experience internal bleeding. However, no antidote has yet been approved for Xarelto bleeding.** In June, the Institute for Safe Medicine Practices (ISMP) reported that adverse events associated with the use of Xarelto are on the rise. According to data from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), the agency received a total of 680 Xarelto adverse event reports in the first quarter of 2013. For the first time, reports of Xarelto complications outpaced those associated with Pradaxa, another blood thinner in the same class, according to the ISMP.***
According to a Reuters report published that same month, Xarelto is the subject of a number of product liability lawsuits currently pending in U.S. courts. Court documents indicate that one of the more recent claims was filed on July 25th in the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont on behalf of a man who allegedly suffered a fatal brain bleed just 10 days after he began using the blood thinner. Among other things, the complaint alleges that Bayer HealthCare and Johnson & Johnson withheld information from consumers and the medical community about the lack of an approved antidote for Xarelto’s bleeding side effects. (Case No. 2:14-cv-00159-cr)
Alleged victims of Xarelto bleeding may be entitled to take legal action against the manufacturers of the blood thinner. Learn more about filing a Xarelto lawsuit by visiting Bernstein Liebhard LLP’s website, or by calling 800-511-5092 to schedule a free, no obligation case review.
