Xarelto Lawsuit Alleges Drug’s Manufacturers Failed to Warn of Bleeding Risk, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports
New York, New York (PRWEB) January 07, 2015 -- A Xarelto lawsuit (http://www.xareltolawsuit2015.com/) recently filed in Illinois state court claims that the manufacturers of the blood thinner failed to provide patients with adequate warnings regarding its association with life-threatening, uncontrollable bleeding, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to the complaint, which was filed on November 21, 2014 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, Xarelto has allegedly caused numerous patients to experience an inability for their blood to coagulate in a timely manner. Among other things, the lawsuit claims that the drug’s manufacturers were aware of data from Xarelto’s clinical trials that suggested the medication was associated with serious bleeding concerns, including an increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding and bleeding that required transfusion. However, promotional materials for the medication failed to note these risks, the complaint states. (Case No. 14-L-764.)
“Our Firm is representing plaintiffs in Xarelto lawsuits that put forth similar allegations regarding its association with dangerous bleeding events. We are monitoring all of the litigation involving this blood thinner with great interest,” said Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering free, no-obligation Xarelto case reviews to people who allegedly suffered serious injuries from the medication, including uncontrollable bleeding, strokes, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.
Xarelto Litigation
Xarelto is a blood thinner that is approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration to prevent strokes in people with atrial fibrillation; as a treatment for deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism; and to prevent deep vein thrombosis in patients undergoing hip or knee replacement surgery. Like any blood thinner, Xarelto can sometimes cause episodes of internal bleeding. However, there currently exists no approved antidote to reverse this potential complication.*
According to court documents, dozens of Xarelto lawsuits are currently pending in a federal multidistrict litigation now underway in U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana, where all federally-filed claims brought on behalf of patients who allegedly suffered serious internal bleeding events due to the medication have been consolidated for coordinated pretrial proceedings. Among other things, plaintiffs charge that Xarelto was wrongfully promoted as a superior alternative to warfarin, a blood thinner that has been in use for decades. They point out that while there is currently no approved antidote to reverse Xarelto bleeding, hemorrhaging associated with warfarin can be stopped via the administration of Vitamin K. Individuals who were allegedly harmed by Xarelto may be entitled to compensation for their injury-related damages, including medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
