Among other things, numerous Xarelto lawsuits have been filed in the U.S. on behalf of individuals who were allegedly harmed by this blood thinner.

As Xarelto lawsuits (http://www.thexareltolawsuit.com/ ) continue to mount in U.S. courts, Bernstein Liebhard LLP notes that Janssen Ortho L.L.C. has recalled thousands of bottles of the blood thinner after microbial contamination was detected in a sample of the medication. According to a notice posted on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) website, the Xarelto recall was issued on September 17th, and involved 13,500 bottles. The FDA has granted the recall its Class II designation, which indicates that exposure to a product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.

“Our Firm is monitoring developments surrounding Xarelto very closely, as the safety of the medication has come under increasing scrutiny in recent months. Among other things, numerous Xarelto lawsuits have been filed in the U.S. on behalf of individuals who were allegedly harmed by this blood thinner,” said Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering Xarelto case reviews to people who allegedly suffered serious injuries from the blood thinner, including uncontrollable bleeding, strokes, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.

Xarelto litigation
According to court documents, at least 21 Xarelto lawsuits are now pending in federal courts, all which allege the blood thinner caused patients to experience uncontrollable internal bleeding and related complications. Earlier this month, some Xarelto plaintiffs petitioned the U.S. Judicial Panel for Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) for the establishment of a consolidated litigation to handle these claims, as well as any filed in federal courts in the future. Among other things, these lawsuits all claim that Xarelto was wrongly marketed as a superior alternative to warfarin, a blood thinner that has been on the market for decades. The complaints point out that while warfarin bleeding can be reversed via the administration of vitamin K, there is no approved antidote to stop the bleeding that sometimes occurs with warfarin. Xarelto was cleared for sale in the U.S. in 2011, and is now approved to prevent strokes in people with atrial fibrillation; as a treatment for deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism; and to prevent deep vein thrombosis in patients undergoing hip or knee replacement surgery. This past May, the Institute of Safe Medicine Practices revealed that the FDA had received a total of 680 Xarelto adverse event reports in the first quarter of 2013. For the first time, these reports outpaced those associated with Pradaxa, another blood thinner in the same class.*

Xarelto patients who allegedly experienced uncontrollable internal bleeding, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, or other serious complications related to the use of the blood thinner may be able to pursue a legal claim against the drug’s manufacturers.
