Pennsylvania Xarelto Lawsuits Consolidated With Creation of Mass Tort Program in Philadelphia, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports
New York, New York (PRWEB) January 23, 2015 -- Xarelto lawsuits (http://www.xareltolawsuit2015.com/ ) that allege the blood-thinning medication caused some patients to experience uncontrollable internal bleeding and other life-threatening complications continue to mount in U.S. courts, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to an Order dated January 20th, a new mass tort program has been created in Pennsylvania’s Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas for product liability claims involving Xarelto. The Order noted that as of January 14th, at least 73 Xarelto cases had been filed in Pennsylvania. (In Re: Xarelto Litigation, Case ID 150102349)
“Our Firm is currently representing clients in Xarelto lawsuits, and we continue to hear from others who were allegedly harmed by this blood thinner. As such, we have been monitoring this growing litigation very closely,” said Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering free, no-obligation Xarelto case reviews to people who allegedly suffered serious injuries from the blood thinner, including uncontrollable bleeding, strokes, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.
Xarelto Litigation
According to court documents, Xarelto lawsuits filed in federal courts have also been consolidated in a multidistrict litigation that was established last month in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana. Nearly 90 claims are currently pending in that proceeding, which is scheduled to convene its first Status Conference on January 29th. (In Re: Xarelto Products Liability Litigation, No. 2592)
Court records indicate that all of the Xarelto lawsuits currently pending in state and federal courts similarly allege that the drug’s manufacturers wrongly marketed it as a superior alternative to warfarin, a blood thinner that has been in use for decades. Among other things, the complaints point out that there currently exists no approved reversal agent to stop Xarelto bleeding, while the internal bleeding that may sometimes occur with warfarin can be reversed via the administration of vitamin K. The lawsuits also claim that the drug makers should have recommended blood monitoring for Xarelto patients, so that physicians could adjust dosage to avoid life-threatening internal hemorrhaging.
Individuals who suffered uncontrollable episodes of internal bleeding allegedly associated with Xarelto may be entitled to take legal action of their own.
