DrugNews Announces Latest on Yaz Settlements and Warnings
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 03, 2013 -- The birth control safety center at DrugNews.net is announcing updated information for women who’ve taken the contraceptives Yaz or Yasmin. A recent report linked the drugs to 23 blood clot deaths in Canada, as Bayer continues to settle injury claims in the United States*.
DrugNews was created to improve the safety and awareness of patients taking popular prescription drugs by providing the latest research, safety alerts, recalls and legal news. Visitors can find out if others have experienced similar side effects and determine if they need legal advice.
The resource center has added warnings from health experts like the British Medical Journal** and FDA*** that birth control pills such as Yaz and Yasmin, which contain the hormone drospirenone, can increase the risk of blood clots.
Now, DrugNews has learned that records from Health Canada allege a link between Yaz and 23 patient deaths from blood clots since 2007, as a judge there has certified a new Yaz class action lawsuit*.
So far, 9,961 patients have filed a Yaz lawsuit alleging side effects like blood clots in the United States, resulting in cases being consolidated to a special federal Multi-District Litigation court in Illinois (Yasmin and Yaz (Drospirenone) Marketing, Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation (MDL No. 2100, Southern District Illinois)).
DrugNews has added information showing Bayer has spent around $1 billion so far to settle nearly 5,000 Yaz lawsuits alleging blood clot injuries like pulmonary embolism or deep vein thrombosis (DVT)****. They have also committed up to $1.5 billion in full to resolve cases*****.
Lawyers are still helping those who suffered a blood clot, DVT, stroke or Pulmonary Embolism after taking Yaz or Yasmin. Anyone affected is urged to contact the DrugNews Center or speak with a lawyer about their legal options.
Due to the specialized nature of federal MDL litigation, patients should seek a lawyer with experience in defective drug litigation. DrugNews only recommends lawyers who have already settled Yaz lawsuits.
