York County, SC Continues to Add and Expand Visitor Attractions in 2014
York County, SC (PRWEB) February 27, 2014 -- The staff of the Rock Hill/York County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is excited about the new opportunities that tourism industry partners will make available to York County visitors this year. Additions to major attractions and new developments will give York County’s tourism amenities a competitive advantage.
In the summer of 2014, Carowinds, Thrill Capital of the Southeast will introduce new additions to the amusement park’s amenities. The park will add two new mega-slides to its Boomerang Bay water park. The slides will stand over 4 stories high and will add a combined 614 feet of splashes to its unique ride experiences. Surfer’s Swell will give riders the experience of riding a wave and Dorsal Fin Drop will take riders on a spin through its curved tunnel, like a shark circling its prey.
New to Camp Canaan this year, will be the introduction of its High Adventure Course and the Archery Tag field. The course begins with a Cocoon Tube Net climb. At the top of the course, participants will face up to four challenge elements. At the end of the course is the Gravity Zip, a 320 foot zipline. Archery Tag combines the fun play of dodge-ball and paint-ball while using the skill-set of archery with patented foam-tipped arrows. Two teams compete to knock out all the centers of the opposing team’s 5-spot target.
The City of Rock Hill continues to add to the development of the Rock Hill Outdoor Center at Riverwalk. In 2013, the Rock Hill Outdoor Center Greens was added to the Riverwalk outdoor amenities. The Greens, an expansive, open green space, offers individuals and families space for recreation and free play activities. Construction began on the Novant Health BMX Supercross Track in late 2013. The facility will open sometime this year. The city also began construction on Fountain Park, a planned urban park which will feature a fountain and a green space suitable for small public events.
A new Hampton Inn and Suites will open in late 2014. According to the developer, it will be a six-story hotel with 102 rooms. The hotels’ meeting space will accommodate between 125 – 150 people.
Although construction began in late 2013, the restoration of the Brick House at Historic Brattonsville is underway. The Brick House which is one of three original Bratton homes is the last to be restored. The circa 1880 Greek Revival influenced building was last occupied by the Bratton family in 1914. The home has since had very little work done on it and has mostly remained in the same condition. Most of its masonry work is complete or in progress and nearly half of the roofing will soon be complete. The project is expected to take several years to complete, but will be open to the public once restoration is done.
The Hilton Garden Inn has revamped its permanent amphitheatre meeting room into another flexible meeting room space that can now accommodate banquets and other events, in addition to classroom style and U-shape setups. There is now 2,500 sq. ft. of flexible meeting room space.
