Verified Volunteers and USA Taekwondo Partner to Make Youth Sports Safer Through New Volunteer Screening Platform
Ft. Collins, CO and Colorado Springs, CO (PRWEB) May 08, 2014 -- Verified Volunteers, the first-of-its-kind platform for volunteer screening, and USA Taekwondo, the National Governing Body for the sport of Taekwondo in the U.S., announce their partnership to implement background screening for all USA Taekwondo coaches, instructors, referees and club owners.
This partnership makes the background screening process faster, less costly and more user-friendly for youth sports organizations and their coaches through a streamlined platform, automatic monthly updates, and Fast-Pass background check sharing capabilities.
USA Taekwondo has partnered with Verified Volunteers as part of their new initiative, SafeSport, which was developed by the U.S. Olympic Committee with the goal of ensuring a safe environment for athletes. As part of the rollout of SafeSport, all coaches, referees, instructors and club owners who register as members with USA Taekwondo are now required to obtain a background check.
“We are very excited about our partnership with Verified Volunteers,” said Bruce Harris, CEO of USA Taekwondo. “We know that through these background checks and the services offered by Verified Volunteers, we will help keep our athletes safe, which is our number one priority.”
Verified Volunteers is the first screening platform to offer a “common screening currency” for service organizations and a Fast-Pass for volunteers. This means that coaches and volunteers can share their completed background check with any other youth sports organization, nonprofit, school or faith-based organization in the Verified Volunteers community. This unique platform makes it easier for volunteers to start serving faster, and decreases the time and monetary investment needed from youth sports organizations like USA Taekwondo.
“We are thrilled to partner with USA Taekwondo to provide their coaches and instructors with access to a simple and streamlined screening process and help them to uphold their commitment to athlete safety,” said Verified Volunteers Executive Director Tom Klein.
Since the Verified Volunteers screening platform fully integrates with USA Taekwondo’s volunteer management system, coaches, referees, instructors and club owners can now use the USA Taekwondo website to submit their information for screens. Background checks are then available within hours or days, with results automatically populated within USA Taekwondo’s volunteer management system.
Features of the Verified Volunteers platform include:
• A paperless, self-service online process
• Fast-Pass: Volunteer ability to securely share background checks free of charge with multiple volunteer organizations on the platform
• Automatic monthly updates (at no additional cost for the first year) and real-time alerts
• Volunteer manager ability to track, communicate with and manage volunteers
• Compliance with FCRA and state laws
USA Taekwondo is the most recent national organization to select Verified Volunteers as its provider for volunteer background checks. Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service, announced its strategic partnership with Verified Volunteers in late 2013. Verified Volunteers is closely collaborating with Points of Light’s HandsOn Network volunteer action centers in cities across the U.S.
