New Zamzee for Groups Provides Groundbreaking Digital Health Tool in the Fight Against Childhood Obesity
Redwood City, CA (PRWEB) October 15, 2013 -- Zamzee®, a company founded in 2010 to help combat the childhood obesity epidemic by motivating physical activity through game-based technology, today announced the launch of Zamzee for Groups. The new Zamzee for Groups makes Zamzee, a device that measures physical activity and a website that motivates kids to move, ideal for clinical programs and other groups who want to reverse the effects of sedentary behavior and improve health.
Zamzee for Groups features a powerful data-collection tool that allows doctors, clinicians and other program leaders to motivate, measure and manage physical activity in real time. The new Group Dashboard displays insights on physical activity levels and patterns in real time, helping clinicians and group leaders target their programs more effectively. Furthermore, the research behind Zamzee certifies to program leaders that Zamzee not only tracks physical activity, but increases it by 59%.
Zamzee is a research-proven tool that motivates kids to move more. Data from a randomized, controlled study conducted by HopeLab, with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, showed that middle-school children using Zamzee boosted their physical activity levels by 59% compared to a control group. The study also showed significant increases in physical activity for at-risk groups, including a 103% increase among girls and 27% increase among overweight participants. Other outcomes included positive impacts on LDL cholesterol and glycated hemoglobin, key biomarkers for heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
“Our experience piloting Zamzee for Groups in pediatric weight management clinics has shown improved program adherence and completion rates, increased patient satisfaction and longer-term engagement when kids and parents use Zamzee together,” said Lance Henderson, CEO of Zamzee. “With scientific research demonstrating efficacy and powerful tools that help clinicians motivate, measure and manage patients’ physical activity, Zamzee for Groups improves upon the current standard of care that relies on self-reported activity data which is by definition, unreliable.”
Zamzee for Groups was prototyped and beta tested in medical clinics prior to launch. With successful results in treatment programs for pediatric weight management and positive feedback from clinicians and other group leaders, the product is now available to the public. Meters and set-up for Zamzee for Groups is available now at http://www.zamzee.com.
