Alpharetta, Georgia (PRWEB) May 01, 2014 -- ZCorum, a leading provider of managed broadband services and diagnostics, announced that Vice President of Technology, Scott Helms, will speak today at the National Cable and Telecommunications Association (NCTA) Cable Show being held in Los Angeles this week. The NCTA show is the premiere trade association for the cable industry in the United States. Each year the show hosts more than 12,000 professionals from the cable industry. The Cable Show delivers cutting edge content from the cable industry with panels on new technologies, discussions on content creation, and access to key influencers in the cable broadband industry.
Helms will serve as a panelist today for the session titled Elevating the Experience: Techniques and Technologies for Operational Excellence. The discussion will cover smart technologies which enable companies to create remarkable customer service practices that are also sustainable. During his presentation titled, “Leveraging Full Spectrum Capture for Remote Spectrum Analysis”, Helms will speak on Remote Spectrum Analysis. His presentation will cover technology now available in newer cable modems and set-top boxes that allow them to act like probes. Advanced chipsets capture the full spectrum for all data and video channels passing through the device, which can then be displayed using specialized software in the same way the signal would look on a physical meter.
"Monitoring the downstream network has always been a challenge for cable providers because of the number of end-points," said Helms. "Installing probes on the network is expensive, and you don't get complete coverage. Unfortunately, many providers wind up using their Call Center as their monitoring method, trying to zero in on where problems are as customers call in to complain about poor service."
According to Helms, with remote spectrum analysis, providers can view the full spectrum from any location on mobile devices such as tablets or smartphones, which eliminates the need for expensive test equipment and reduces truck rolls to locate issues in the field. "With remote spectrum analysis, providers will be able to reduce their capital expenditures and maintenance costs, and also get spectrum analysis tools into the hands of more technicians."
