ZCorum Webinar to Focus on Advantages of DOCSIS Pre-Equalization and Proactive Network Maintenance
Alpharetta, GA (PRWEB) February 07, 2014 -- ZCorum, a leading provider of managed broadband services and diagnostics for cable, telco, wireless and fiber providers, will be conducting a technology webinar for the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC) on the subject of DOCSIS pre-equalization. The webinar will explain the basics of pre-equalization and how it relates to the quality of service subscribers receive and the ability to use pre-equalization data for Proactive Network Maintenance (PNM).
The webinar is taking place in partnership with The Volpe Firm, with Founder and President Brady Volpe, who lends his expertise to industry associations and protocol bodies, and is often sought out as an authority on DOCSIS, PacketCable, and VoIP.
In the webinar, entitled ‘DOCSIS Pre-Equalization: Vastly Powerful, Often Undervalued,’ Volpe and ZCorum’s Vice President of Technology, Scott Helms, will examine the advantages cable operators can see by enabling pre-equalization as part of their overall strategy for network management.
“Pre-equalization is a standard DOCSIS feature that allows cable modems to compensate for upstream impairments on the network,” said Helms. “The really interesting development is how you can now use that pre-equalization data to find and fix those impairments, which can have a significant impact on operational costs and customer satisfaction.”
“This is one of the most exciting things I’ve worked on since I’ve been in the cable industry,” said Volpe. “With pre-equalization enabled and a PNM tool in place, operators can now pinpoint where upstream impairments are in their network and take action before for subscriber services are affected, whether the problem is in the customer’s home, at the drop outside the home, or fifteen hundred feet away.”
Helms and Volpe recently appeared together in a Live Google Hangout where they discussed the benefits of pre-equalization and proactive network maintenance. A recorded video of that session is posted on ZCorum’s Business of Broadband Blog.
The upcoming Webinar, which is open to all NCTC members, will go into more detail on the topic, and will include a demonstration of ZCorum’s new PNM tool called PreEqualization Analyzer. The Webinar will take place on Tuesday, February 11 beginning at 4:00 p.m. Eastern time and will be followed by a Q&A session. NCTC Members can register to attend here.
