In a move to provide a higher quality of service to its municipal broadband customers, Paragould Light, Water and Cable recently signed an agreement with ZCorum for Bandwidth Commander, the company’s next generation bandwidth management tool for DOCSIS networks.
Unlike earlier solutions that were limited to tracking and enforcing monthly usage quotas, Bandwidth Commander is able to monitor bandwidth use on an hour by hour basis and apply usage policies dynamically at any time, including during peak hours. As part of the deal, ZCorum will provide data collection, policy management consulting and implementation support to Paragould.
Paragould was carefully considering its options for maximizing their bandwidth investment and heard about ZCorum's solution during a Webinar presented for NCTC members. They contacted ZCorum to explore ways to better control bandwidth use on their network while also improving the overall service experience for their subscribers.
Bandwidth Commander is a hosted solution that leverages DOCSIS compatible CMTS equipment for data collection and dynamic policy enforcement. The tool collects and analyzes the bandwidth usage data from the CMTS and allows operators to apply net-neutral bandwidth management policies that help control costs and reduce congestion on the network.
Paragould and ZCorum are already working together to collect the data needed for determining the best practices for managing the bandwidth usage of their network.
"Bandwidth Commander is designed to relieve broadband providers from the unsustainable cycle of rising bandwidth costs and no corresponding rise in revenue to pay for more," said Neal Grillot, ZCorum’s VP of Operations. "We’re providing a way to delay capital expenditures and tie revenue received to bandwidth used, which will help fund the future expansion needed to keep up with overall demand."
ZCorum provides broadband Internet and communication solutions to telcos, cable companies, utilities, and municipalities, assisting in all facets of broadband implementation, integration, engineering and consulting, network monitoring, bandwidth usage management and diagnostics. ZCorum also offers wholesale, private-labeled Internet services, including data and VoIP provisioning, email, Web hosting, and 24x7 support for end-users, enabling service providers to compete effectively in their local rural and suburban markets. ZCorum is headquartered in Alpharetta, GA. For more information, please visit http://www.ZCorum.com.
