ZCorum to Present Downstream Spectrum Analysis Webinar for NCTC Members
Alpharetta, GA (PRWEB) July 17, 2014 -- ZCorum, a leading provider of managed broadband services and diagnostics, will be hosting a technology webinar for NCTC members titled “The Coming Revolution in Downstream Spectrum Analysis” on Tuesday, July 22nd at 4:00 PM EDT. The webinar will cover advanced capabilities in newer cable modems and set-top boxes that allow them to capture the full spectrum for all data and video channels, as well as how that information can be viewed via a mobile app.
“There is a DOCSIS-standard capability in newer cable CPE devices that many providers are not yet aware of that can save them a lot of time and money,” said Scott Helms, Vice President of Technology. “These new capabilities will change the way cable providers troubleshoot downstream spectrum issues, reducing both truck rolls and the need for expensive test equipment.”
The way that cable providers have isolated issues in their downstream plant hasn’t changed significantly in the past 50 years, often requiring a trip to the customer location to connect a meter so you can view the downstream signal. According to Helms, this will soon seem like the dark ages. “Now every device in the field compatible with this standard becomes like a network probe. With the right software you can read the full spectrum on a mobile device remotely, just as it would appear on a meter, from anywhere you have Internet access. You can even compare readings from more than one modem on the same screen.”
ZCorum recently released a product called RF Inspector that collects the captured spectrum information and displays it on a mobile device. The free app is available in the Google Play Store, although there is a $9.95 annual subscription for each individual who downloads and uses the app. The live webinar is an exclusive event for National Cable Television Cooperation (NCTC) members. Members who would like to attend this event should contact the NCTC for registration instructions. After the webinar, a recording of the live event will be available on the ZCorum website.
