ZENEDGE Open Sources Linux Kernel Extension for Cybersecurity
Aventura, FL (PRWEB) May 06, 2016 -- ZENEDGE, a leading provider of cloud-based, Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven cybersecurity solutions, announced today that the Company is contributing a Linux kernel extension called Zentables-addons to open source, developed to increase the capacity to block IP addresses behind an HTTP load balancer, such as HA Proxy or Amazon ELB.
Many organizations have virtualized environments deployed in the cloud. Cloud platforms such as Rackspace, Azure and AWS offer HTTP(S) load balancers, such as HAProxy and Amazon ELB. By running behind a Load Balancer that is not under the organization’s control, the organization loses the ability to use traditional software firewalls such as iptables. A work-around exists by moving the IP blocking to Layer 7, the application layer, but comes at the expense of performance. Zentables-addons offloads the IP blocking from userspace to the kernel, alleviating the performance issue.
In ZENEDGE lab tests, the Zentables-addons achieved great results by offloading blocking of IPs from the userspace to the kernel, increasing blocking capacity by 66% from preidentified malicious IPs based on Proxy Protocol inspection. On a virtual test environment, ZENEDGE observed an improvement of 15,000 RPS to 25,000 RPS by moving the blocking logic from Layer 7 (Nginx or Apache) to Zentables-addons.
