A Glimpse into the Universal Concerns of Women

August 18, 2010The Asian American Women Artists Association (AAWAA), in partnership with the Driftwood Salon, presents A Place of Her Own from September 2, 2010 through October 3, 2010. This exhibition features 11 compelling Asian American women artists from diverse backgrounds and generations, working in both visual and literary media to showcase their personal responses to the question, “If you had a place of your own, what would it be?” These artistic responses come to fruition as installations, written word, paintings, and printmaking. Virginia Woolf ‘s assertion was that in order for a woman to practice her craft, she must have a room of her own. What happens when AAWAA expands those parameters to go beyond the concept of room to discover a place, in which the limitations are bound by the imagination and nothing more? On April 12, 2004, while Garson was in Portland, Oregon with David Bowie's "A Reality Tour," the Brian Marki Fine Art Gallery hosted a premiere reception of his avant-garde artwork.
