11-Year-Old Luciano Magaro Co-Authors Book About Living With Autism
"My Life With Gary" Now Available to Schools and Parents Throughout U.S.
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 1, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- An 11-year-old boy's book discussing what life with autism is like has published. Luciano Magaro and his mother, Jeannette Magaro, have co-authored, "My Life With Gary," which offers an inside look at the challenges and solutions to living on the spectrum.
The duo chose to publish a book with the goal of not only spreading awareness and understanding, but to also tear down stigmas associated with autism.
"My Life with Gary" provides a simple look at the very complex mind of young Luciano who struggles with issues that present themselves on any given day, such as following basic commands, self-esteem issues, pleasing others, and feeling different.
It is estimated that as many as one in 37 boys and one in 59 children are diagnosed with autism. "We find many are misinformed, including educators, as to what autism actually looks like," explains Jeannette Magaro, the book's co-author and Founder of Autism in Classrooms. "In order to help others - such as teachers and coaches - understand how to work with kids on the spectrum, we realized we needed to tell our own personal story, complete with the real-life struggles and challenges we face as a family."
The book is available by donation only and can be acquired through Autism In Classrooms, a 501(c)(3): http://www.autisminclassrooms.org. Organizations, such as Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs), would benefit greatly from this book.
Earlier in April, Magaro launched Autism In Classrooms to not only educate teachers, coaches, and other students but to also raise awareness of individuals on the spectrum who possess such amazing gifts and talents in STEM, music, and the arts. While autistic individuals sometimes are known to others for being deficient and different, Magaro wants to "make a difference by celebrating brilliance."
