The Mirena IUD, manufactured by Bayer, is an intrauterine device (IUD) that is inserted into the uterus as a contraceptive method. In the lawsuit, the plaintiff claims that her Mirena IUD migrated, perforated her uterus and laparoscopic surgery was required to remove it.

According to court data updated on October 17, there were 211 cases pending in the Mirena IUD Multidistrict Litigation (MDL no. 2434, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York).
