Berkeley B-Side Art Gallery, uBe Art, Presents a Soulful Exhibition
Berkeley, CA (PRWEB) April 14, 2016 -- uBe Art gallery, located in the B-Side Hood of Berkeley—an up–and–coming cluster of shops, restaurants and art and entertainment venues—launches into May with an exhibition devoted to portraits.
The Opening Reception for the juried exhibition, In My Absence, taking place on Friday, May 6, from 6-9PM, showcases 46 portraits covering a wide spectrum of medium and genre from artists across the country.
“Artists have created self portraits for centuries—in part to ensure presence in their absence,” said Winn Taylor, uBe Art’s proprietor and curator. “The exhibition is full of emotion, humor and soul. The range of imagery gives me chills. It was a daunting task for our jury to narrow down our selection to 46 pieces from over 700 entries. I am incredibly excited to share these works with the Bay Area. It’s really a fantastic line-up!”
The exhibition showcases the following artists: Antonia Posey, Cassandra Cofield, Jerry Rawlings, Jason John, James Long, Annamarie Pabst, Nicole Stiffle, Ali Vaughan, Laura Moreno, Candice Flewharty, Dominique St Cyr, Michelle Carnes, Brian Wilson, Mark Sisson, Evelynn Aponte, Stratton McCrady, Sean Fox, Lena Davidson, Preston Craig, Sandra Jetton, Linda Emanuel, Charity Henderson, Juannie Eng, Rachel Karklin, Joan Ryan, Mare Vaccaro, Patricia Mitchell, Rupert Chambers, Vanessa Edwards, DebiLynn Fendley,Karen Thomas, Tina Erickson, Diana Andersen, Jeremy Lindberg, Kaylee Prebeck, Andras Ladai, Krystina Schweyer, Jordan Jurich-Weston, Chuck Drumm, Ellen Schinderman, Angelika Ejtel, Ashlie DaCosta, Ashley Middleton, Milton Garay and Jodie Barbin.
The Opening Reception will feature an open bar and live music with Sean Lee, delivering everything from zig zag blues to banjo funk to swamp glam—singing and playing the banjo in a sloppy rag time rhythm to the beat of a bass drum kick & a tambourine shoe.
In My Absence will run through June 26th.
The Berkeley art gallery is located at 2507 San Pablo Ave and is open Thursdays from 1PM to 7 PM; on Friday and Saturdays from 12PM to 7PM, on Sundays from 12PM to 5 PM and available 7 days a week for hosting special events.
