Rise Against Hunger Celebrates Nearly 800,000 Lives Nourished in One Year
RALEIGH, N.C. (PRWEB) March 19, 2019 -- Raleigh based non-profit, Rise Against Hunger, was able to impact the lives of nearly 800,000 individuals in the past year. The organization announced last week that their 2018 impact results showed significant strides in their commitment to end hunger by the year 2030 — directly in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2.
Rise Against Hunger’s mission is to end hunger in this lifetime — one of the world’s most pressing, yet solvable issues. Since it’s inception in 1998, the organization has inspired millions of volunteers to package fortified meals to be sent to 74 countries in critical aid need. In 2018 alone, Rise Against Hunger engaged volunteers to package 76.9 million meals across their 28 U.S. based and five international locations.
“What we want everyone to know is that hunger is solvable and is the common thread among the world’s most challenging issues,” said Rod Brooks, President and CEO of Rise Against Hunger. “When hunger is targeted, you give leverage and hope to every other cause including poverty, disease, education and the welfare of women and children.”
In 2018, the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) announced that 821 million people in the world are hungry. Although world hunger is historically on the decline, the number of hungry people is trending upward. Rise Against Hunger is taking action by working to address the root causes of hunger and poverty by creating long-term, sustainable solutions. In that vein, the organization increased its average meals per beneficiary to 203 per year in 2018, focusing heavily on meal distribution to women and children.
Rise Against Hunger was founded in Raleigh, N.C. two decades ago. By 2005, the organization’s signature meal packaging program was created, giving volunteer groups of all sizes and backgrounds the opportunity to make a true hands-on impact toward ending hunger. Rise Against Hunger meal packaging events allow groups to package dry ingredients in an assembly line. The organization then ships the packaged meals to impact partners serving people in critical food need around the globe. After shipment, the meals are distributed in school feeding and safety-net programs focused on breaking the cycle of poverty.
Outside of meal packaging and nourishing lives of beneficiaries, Rise Against Hunger focuses on specific pathways to end hunger. The organization is committed to Empowering Communities, by increasing self-sufficiency through the promotion of agricultural development business skills training and market access; providing Emergency Relief and assistance, through distributing food and aid to victims of manmade and natural disaster and crises and growing the movement, by showing volunteers that it is, in fact, possible to end hunger by the year 2030.
Rise Against Hunger has been a 4-star Charity Navigator rated non-profit for five consecutive years. To learn more about Rise Against Hunger, to get involved, or to make a donation, visit http://www.riseagainsthunger.org
