Ace Hardware Celebrity Shootout to Benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Premiers Aug. 10 on the Golf Channel
(PRWEB) August 07, 2014 -- Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals®, a charity that raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals in North America, will once again benefit from the Ace Hardware Celebrity Golf Shootout. Set to air on the Golf Channel on Aug. 10 at 2 p.m., Aug. 12 at 2 p.m. and Aug. 14 at 11 p.m. Eastern, the 17th Annual Ace Hardware Celebrity Golf Shootout features some of the biggest names in professional sports in an event known for stunning golf shots. Paired in teams according to sport, the athletes will compete in a series of golf challenges to raise more than $1 million for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
“The Ace Shootout gives athletes the chance to engage in some playful competition while raising money for kids who need it,” said NFL Hall of Famer Steve Young, who hosts the event this year along with award-winning sports journalist Win McMurry. “It’s great to see sports legends step outside of their athletic expertise for a good cause.”
The 2014 participants for the Ace Celebrity Golf Shootout are eight sports stars: World Series Champions David Wells and Kevin Millar, NFL Hall of Fame nominee Tim Brown, Chicago Bears placekicker Robbie Gould, actor and Toyota Grand Prix Celebrity Race winner Alfonso Ribeiro, two-time Daytona 500 winner and NASCAR racer Michael Waltrip, basketball Olympic gold medalist Clyde Drexler and 11-time NBA All Star Julius Erving.
Held in scenic Hawaii, the event will spotlight Ikaika Ka’ahanui as the 2014 Honorary Miracle Caddie. Ikaika, Hawaiian for “strong,” was rushed by ambulance just hours after birth to Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women & Children, a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. A hole between his trachea and esophagus was identified as the most urgent of several conditions and resulted in the first of a dozen major surgeries. Ikaika was the 2013 Hawaii Champion for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, serving as an ambassador for the millions of kids treated every year at CMN Hospitals.
