Alabama Woman Returns from War Torn Sudan After Witnessing Genocide by the Government of [North] Sudan
Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) February 19, 2014 -- Alabama resident and author Kimberly L Smith returns from war-torn Sudan after a month-long humanitarian mission assisting orphans amid violence, bombings and genocide. Smith, President and Co-founder of the Alabama-based Christian mission organization Make Way Partners (MWP), led a team to the Nuba Mountains of [north] Sudan and near to the region of Darfur in South Sudan assisting more than one thousand unadoptable orphans. The organization protects the children from modern-day slavery through MWP’s indigenously led anti-trafficking network.
While there, Smith’s team visited the orphans under MWP’s protection and provided emergency medical care for the community. They also met with the region’s leaders who helped document the situation on the ground in Sudan. Smith found further evidence to the on-going genocide [1] by the northern Sudanese government that leaders told her targets the Nuban people for extermination. She watched aircraft on attack missions dropping bombs, including parachute bombs in the Nuba Mountains. Smith calls the Nuba region, “the new Darfur.”
The local government officials credited Make Way Partners as being the only group offering any help to the people in the Nuba Mountains.
The MWP anti-trafficking network cares for more than one thousand orphans in three strategic locations throughout [north] and South Sudan. The mission of the small Alabama-based non-profit is to end human trafficking and all forms of modern-day oppression in countries where little to no other help is available.
In her book, Passport Through Darkness, Smith details her personal journey from corporate America to fighting human trafficking in war-torn Sudan known for violence and genocide.
Smith will be available for interviews when she returns from her African trip after February 20.
