AmeriHealth Caritas Chairman and CEO Paul A. Tufano Joins President Obama, to Attend Kick-off of Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network
Philadelphia, Pa. (PRWEB) March 27, 2015 -- Paul A. Tufano, chairman and chief executive officer of AmeriHealth Caritas, a national leader in managed care and other integrated health care solutions, joined President Barack Obama, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell and select health care leaders at the White House this week to kick-off the Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network (Network). The Network is a HHS initiative and was established to provide a forum for public-private partnerships to help health insurers meet or exceed recently established goals for value-based payments and alternative payment models. It is part of a broader initiative announced by HHS earlier this year that aims to shift the health care system to an emphasis on quality of services performed rather than quantity. The Network will continue discussions around transitioning toward alternative payment models that emphasize value as well as how to improve health and reward providers for comprehensive care.
“A health care payment system based on health outcomes is one that will deliver higher quality care and services,” said Tufano. “I was glad to be able to join the President, HHS and other health care leaders in this effort to further this initiative.”
AmeriHealth Caritas, one of the inaugural organizations participating in the Network, is leading the way in Medicaid in innovative payment methods. Its PerformPlus® suite of value-based payment programs for physicians, hospitals and integrated delivery systems aims to improve the health of AmeriHealth Caritas members by forming collaborative provider partnerships and rewarding providers for improving care. Using the PerformPlus® tool, providers are also able to track performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
“Rewarding providers for achieving better health outcomes for our members is just one of the many ways we are improving health care in America. And our collaborative relationships with providers make us an attractive partner of choice in the communities we serve,” Tufano added. ”I look forward to our continued participation and collaboration in the Network.”
