Blood & Tissue Center Foundation Sponsors Annual Red and White Ball: Event to Raise Funding for Stem Cell Expansion Laboratory for BioBrodge Global Subsidiary GenCure
San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) September 28, 2015 -- The Red and White Ball, the annual marquee event of The Blood & Tissue Center Foundation, is coming up on Saturday, Oct. 3.
Proceeds from the event will help GenCure establish a stem cell expansion laboratory. GenCure, The Foundation, QualTex Laboratories and the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center are subsidiaries of San Antonio-based BioBridge Global.
The GenCure laboratory is designed to widen the availability of stem cells, which are used as part of therapy for certain cancers. GenCure's stem cells come exclusively from donated umbilical cord blood and adult donors.
Funds raised at the Red and White Ball will be used to purchase laboratory equipment, including the quantum cell expansion system, which will automate and optimize processes to match the needs of a specific cell type.
The ball, which will be at the Marriott Rivercenter, 101 Bowie St., begins at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour. Dinner and dancing start at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are available by calling 210-249-4498 or sending an email to mary.dial(at)bloodntissue(dot)org.
One of the special guests at the ball will be A.J. Salazar, who received a cord blood transplant from his sister 15 years ago. This fall, he started classes at Palo Alto College.
The ball also will recognize longtime Foundation benefactor and volunteer Karen Heintz, who will receive the Chairman’s Award. Heintz was co-chair of the Red and White Ball in 2008 and Foundation chair in 2012 and 2013.
Sherry and Laird McNeil are co-chairs of this year’s event.
“Our dedicated committees and volunteers have been working hard to guarantee the success of the ball,” said Elizabeth Waltman, the executive director of The Blood & Tissue Center Foundation and the COO of the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center.
“We’re so grateful for their support, and for the support of the Foundation members, the individuals and businesses that support the ball.” Entertainment will be provided by the Pink Flamingos.
