San Marcos, CA (PRWEB) September 14, 2017 -- September is National Baby Safety Month – More than 3,500 babies in the U.S. die suddenly and unexpectedly every year while sleeping, often due to sudden infant death syndrome, or SIDS. In an effort to reduce the risk and educate parents on the best practices for their babies, The Boppy Company supports moms, dads, and babies on their adventures together. Through The Boppy Effect®, the thoughtful company is dedicated to supporting and educating families to improve and strengthen their communities.
Growing from the innovative spirit of one mom into the caring worldwide family that it is today, Boppy works hard to give back to parents, babies and like-minded organizations in need. How do they do this? By educating child care centers and parents on safe sleep practices for baby with CJ First Candle through outreach programs, the Boppy website, videos and information with Boppy® Pillows.
For Baby Safety Month, Boppy is working in tandem with CJ First Candle to ask parents to take the Safe Sleep Pledge, where babies sleep along on a firm surface with no blankets, stuffed animals or any other loose items. Parents can sign up to take the pledge on http://cjfirstcandle.org/ and help get other parents to sign up by sharing with others via social media with the hashtag #Safe2Sleep.
Wondering what you can do to create a safer sleep environment for baby? Here are some helpful hints on how to keep baby safe during sleep:
Place baby’s separate, safe sleep space near your bed. Only bring baby into bed to feed or comfort. Make sure there are no pillows, sheets, blankets, or any other items that could cover baby’s face, head, and neck or overheat baby.
Set up a safe sleep space. Use a crib that meets that meets current safety standards. The mattress should be firm and fit snuggly in the crib.
Keep it comfortable. Make sure baby’s room is well-ventilated and a comfortable temperature. According to a study from The Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, simply having a fan in the room can lower a baby’s risk of SIDS by 72%.
Stay away from soft objects. Never put anything soft, loose or fluffy in baby’s sleep space – including Boppy Pillows. This could increase the risk of entrapment, suffocation, or strangulation, so it’s best to take them out of reach for baby.
Use a firm sleep surface. Never place baby to sleep on top of any soft surface. A firm surface is a hard surface; it should not indent when the baby is lying on it. To be safe, keep baby sleeping on his or her back – for naps and at night – and keep the surface nice and firm.
Share the pledge to keep baby safe during sleep by making the pledge on http://cjfirstcandle.org/and sharing with friends and family. #Safe2Sleep
