BRM Announces 350 Chevy Engine Teardown Video; Find Automotive Brush Tools at PRI Show 2014 (Booth #5511)
Los Angeles, CA (USA) (PRWEB) December 03, 2014 -- Brush Research Manufacturing (BRM), American-owned supplier of Flex-Hone® tools and automotive brushes, is announcing an engine teardown video that’s part of a 350 Chevy engine rebuild project. BRM bought the engine block from a local junkyard, and is restoring the V-8 to demonstrate applications for its automotive surface finishing solutions.
As a related technical article notes, the California manufacturer plans to attend the Performance Racing Industry tradeshow (PRI Show) in Indianapolis, Indiana from December 11 to 13, 2014. Visitors to Booth #5511 can learn more about BRM’s flexible cylinder hones, NamPower nylon abrasive brushes, diesel tools, brake hones, automotive brushing tools, and parts wash brushes.
Cylinder Wall Surface Finish and Optimum Lubrication
As BRM’s new engine teardown video shows, the cylinder wall surface finish in this junkyard find was less than ideal. The causes of cylinder wear are numerous, and include friction, corrosion, abrasion, and adhesion or scuffing. Piston ring scuffing is caused by inadequate lubrication, an engine problem that can have serious consequences in performance racing.
For optimum lubrication, engine cylinders need a plateau finish – a concept that BRM pioneered. Flex-Hone® tools impart a cross-hatch pattern of oil-retaining grooves or valleys, and reduce raised areas or peaks to a uniform height. Plateau finishing helps oil adhere to cylinder walls or liners, and promotes proper piston ring seating and sealing.
Flexible Honing Tools for the Performance Racing Industry
BRM’s flexible cylinder hones require no special training or instruction, and can be used with production machinery or hand-held power tools. As the next video in the 350 engine rebuild series will show, Flex-Hone® tools mount in electric drills and are available in a variety of sizes. For a sneak preview, visit the 350 Engine Rebuild photo album on BRM’s Facebook page.
Flex-Hone® technology is used in numerous automotive applications, but BRM ball hones capture the checkered flag in performance racing.
