Business booming in Roswell; City at highest retail and office occupancy rate in four years
Roswell, Georgia (PRWEB) May 02, 2016 -- Roswell Inc has announced the release of its 2015 business report card to City of Roswell, Mayor Jere Wood and the Mayor’s council. The report shines a spotlight on the city’s key economic indicators, including jobs numbers, office vacancy rates, and employment rate, among other data.
The 2015 Roswell business report card data indicate high marks for the city in the areas of office vacancy; the North Fulton city achieved the highest commercial occupancy rate in four years, coming in at 90 percent in 2015.
Additional report card highlights include:
• 649 new business licenses issued last year, generating 2,049 new jobs,
• Construction permits up with 996 issued at a value of $149.3 million,
• Overall unemployment rate of 3.7 percent in 2015, well below the state’s rate of 5.5 percent.

Roswell Attracts Corporate Relocations
Some of the new corporate citizens taking up residence in the city of Roswell include:
- Courion Corporation (relocated from Boston – 80 jobs)
- Crum & Forster (relocated from Perimeter Center – 70 jobs)
- GM (expansion of Technology Innovation Center – 1,400 jobs)
- Hunter’s Specialties (relocated from Cedar Rapids, Iowa – 33 jobs)
- John Deere Headquarters (relocated to combine regional operations – 124 jobs)
- Talent Served (relocated from Marietta, Ga. – 12 jobs)
Lowest Unemployment Rate in Five Years
In addition to corporate relocations and expansions, the City of Roswell is seeing an increase in new business openings – the city celebrated 76 ribbon cuttings, with 649 new business licenses issued in 2015. Job numbers for 2015 in the City of Roswell were strong, with 2,409 total new jobs generated last year. Of jobs created, 547 are in Roswell’s Opportunity Zone – the largest zone of its kind in the state, running from Atlanta Street through the Holcomb Bridge Corridor, with 202 participating companies taking advantage of tax credits and incentives for new hires. Roswell’s overall unemployment rate came in at 3.7 percent in 2015, well below the state’s rate of 5.5 percent.
Restaurant, Tourism and Hospitality Business Booming
Restaurant and hospitality sectors saw huge gains in Roswell over the past year, with 33 new restaurants creating 450 new jobs. The restaurant industry in Roswell serves up 3,964 jobs overall, according to data from Applied Geographic Solutions. The city’s continued business and culinary appeal attracted more than $100 million in tourism-related spending last year, 30 percent of which was spent in food and beverage establishments. Just last month, Roswell Restaurant Week, presented by Roswell Inc, attracted a record number of online visitors and was the most geographically expansive Roswell Restaurant Week to date.
