Cambridge Engineered Solutions Produces Wider DURAFLEX® EDGE Belt to Serve Baking Industry
Cambridge, Maryland (PRWEB) September 05, 2014 -- Cambridge Engineered Solutions (CES) is now offering the baking industry a wider version of its popular DURAFLEX® EDGE open metal conveyor belt introduced earlier this year.
By expanding the maximum width of DURAFLEX EDGE from 60 to 156 inches, CES offers bakers a wider opening for ease in sanitation along with a more efficient belt to splice for loaders and out-feeds on tunnel ovens (typically 120 to 156 inches wide). Previous options available to bakers ranged from using a hard to splice, flex-style belt or running as many as three to four narrow belts side-by-side that required many splices to make them endless.
Unlike other belts commonly used for baking, the patent-pending clinched-edge design of DURAFLEX EDGE prevents flares from occurring on belt edges.
According to CES head engineer and project designer Skip Messick, “When tested against a competitor’s flex‐style belt, DURAFLEX EDGE lasted up to 39 times longer without distortion or breakage, making it perfect for a wide variety of food processing applications, including baking.”
DURAFLEX EDGE bends with a true hinge in both directions, eliminating friction and metal fatigue and ensuring proper tracking. DURAFLEX EDGE is self-cleaning, pushing food product residue out as the belt turns on the conveyor. As a result, production does not stop for product contamination or cleaning of the belt.
“We’ve worked closely with our baking customers to see how we can better address the issues they face with using conveyor belts in tunnel ovens,” said Nicole Evans, Brand Manager. “The wider DURAFLEX EDGE increases speed and capacity and decreases down time due to its longer belt life.”
DURAFLEX EDGE offers an easy 30-second splicing time to reduce maintenance, and increases carrying capacity with tighter transfer capability. It is the most open metal belt available that does not compromise belt strength and handles heavier loads than typical light‐duty conveyor belts.
CES recently announced that DURAFLEX EDGE and other belts manufactured at its plants are the first in the industry to be Halal-certified (permissible by Islamic dietary laws), an important distinction for bakers using conveyor belts to produce bread products for Muslim communities.
“Cambridge has been a world leader in the metal wire industry for over 100 years because we are constantly working to improve products and processes for our customers,” said Tracy Tyler, CEO. “DURAFLEX EDGE demonstrates our team’s commitment to engineering solutions that not only ‘solve problems,’ but help our customers take their operations to the next level.”
