Chinese Doctors Successfully Performed a Delicate Surgery for a Moroccan Patient
BEIJING, China (PRWEB) June 10, 2018 -- Amine is a 16 years old teenager from Morocco. When he was 2 years old, there was a mass appeared surrounding his right eye. Later on, this mass spread to his right maxillofacial area and scalp. He didn’t feel any pain when press the mass. When he was five years old, the mass grew to the right orbit, right face and oral cavity. He was diagnosed with type 1 multiple neurofibroma.
During the past more than 10 years, his parents took him to local hospitals and French hospitals and received 4 surgeries. The last surgery was done in May of 2011. Unfortunately, the first four surgeries failed to remove the entire tumor. The tumor was growing faster and bigger than before.
Time flies, and Amine became a teenager. Staring from others become a torture for him. God knows how much he would like to have a normal face. However, the local hospital couldn’t provide him with satisfying treatment. After inquiring many hospitals, UAE embassy introduced Beijing Puhua International Hospital to them. They started contacting our medical consultant since November 2017. After pre-admission evaluation, the medical team accepted Amine for a high-challenge surgery.
Amine’s doctor in charge is Dr. Yanni Lee, who has more than 40 years experience in this field. Although very experienced, two weeks before Amine’s arrival, Dr. Yanni Li studied Amine’s case over and over again, some days even stayed up very late. She analyzed each single nerve, muscle and blood vessel. Dr. Yanni Lee always make herself well prepared before each surgery.
Amine was admitted to Beijing Puhua International Hospital on Feb 24th 2018.
Upon admission, the medical team were surprised that Amine’s condition was far more complicated than the time when he contacted with us. It had been four months since they first contacted with us, and his condition developed a lot during the four months.
Considering Amine had gone through 4 surgeries, and the tumor grow up soon after the injury, Puhua’s medical team were determined to make a most suitable treatment plan to remove the tumor as much as possible. Otherwise, the story will repeated, and Amine will suffer more. In order to make the most suitable treatment plan, multiple-disciplinary consultations were carried out for several times. Tumor removing, orbital bone reconstruction, skin transplantation, muscle transplantation, and nerve transplantation were discussed in the multiple-disciplinary consultations.
To achieve the ultimate goal, Puhua’s medical team also invited the leading plastic surgery team from Shanghai to discuss the surgery details. The surgery was scheduled on April 27 2018.
The surgery was started from 8:30 am of April 27th and was finished 6:30 am of April 28th, which lasted for 22 hours. The surgery was completed successfully with the cooperation of 20 doctors from Puhua’s medical team and the China’s leading plastic surgery team from Shanghai #9 Hospital.
The surgery includes: anatomizing of facial nerve facial arteries/veins and external jugular vein; Subtotal neurofibromatectomy of vertex and the face, and intraorbital nerve fibroma resection; Reconstruction of the inferior orbital margin and partial pavimentum orbitae; parallel resection of latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flaps and myocutaneous flaps; Masseter reconstruction, facial reconstruction, and anastomosis of thoracic dorsal singing nerve horizontal branch with facial nerve.
After observed for 2 days in ICU, Amine was transferred to patient’s room. The medical team observe him closely and manage the surgical wound very carefully. We are very glad to see him getting better day by day. Amine was discharged on June 4th and go back to his home country for further recovery.
Amine’s story has drawn attention from Morocco and the United Arab Emirates. This case showed that Chinese medical team are excellent and are able to treat the world challenge cases.
