JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. (PRWEB) April 12, 2018 -- For travelers looking for a unique getaway this May, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, is keeping the Wild West spirit alive and celebrated with its annual ElkFest and Old West Days weekends. Each May the town offers locals and visitors a variety of fun family-friendly activities to enjoy, many of them free. ElkFest, May 19 and 20, 2018, kicks off Saturday morning with the 51st annual Boy Scouts Elk Antler Auction, where antler piles line the streets of Jackson for bidding at an exciting live auction. The Boy Scouts work hard each spring collecting naturally shed elk antlers for bidding and proudly display their treasures to antlers-shoppers from around the globe for purchase. Auction proceeds fund habitat enhancement projects on the National Elk Refuge as well as the Jackson Hole Scouting program.
Also beginning on Saturday is the Mountain Man Rendezvous and Traders Row at the Teton County Fairgrounds, which runs through May 28. Here, Jackson Hole visitors can experience history with an interactive twist with such traditional frontier challenges as the Bow & Arrow and Hawk & Knife competitions – or receive a sweet treat from the booming candy cannon. Then on Sunday, May 20, guests are encouraged to come hungry to the annual High Noon Chili Cook Off where Jackson’s finest is served up at just $5 a bowl, in hopes of gaining the votes to be crowned “Best of the West.”
Old West Days, May 25 – 28, 2018, fills the Memorial Day weekend with an array of Western celebrations, including Friday night at the Bar J Chuckwagon, where guests enjoy one-of-a-kind cowboy entertainment from the talented Wranglers along with a hearty Western-style meal. Saturday morning, the Old West Days Parade comes to town with locals and visitors lining the streets of Jackson to enjoy the passing horses, mountain men, vintage vehicles, covered wagons and role-playing gunslingers. Kids’ crafts on Town Square keep little ones engaged and happy, and parents can sample the surrounding boutique shops and galleries. Saturday, craft beer fans can wet their whistles at the Old West Brew Fest, also on Town Square, with the region’s finest beers on tap for sampling. Master brewers offer their favorite fermentations as a variety of bitters, lagers, ales and stouts compete for the “Golden Boot Award.”
