Fourteenth Annual Divots for Devereux Golf Tournament a Swinging Success
League City, TX (PRWEB) September 24, 2015 -- Community members enjoyed a beautiful day on the course during the 14th Annual Divots for Devereux Golf Classic. The tournament, benefiting the Devereux School and Scholarship program, took place on Monday, Sept. 14 at Bay Oaks Country Club.
Twenty-two teams took to the course for an exciting round of golf and contests, but the fun didn’t end there. The day-long event included a delicious lunch and dinner and exciting live and silent auctions with premium packages ranging from autographed J.J. Watt and Craig Biggio memorabilia, to a Sonoma, Calif. getaway and European adventure in Montreux, Switzerland.
This year’s Championship Division First Place Winners from MaximGroup included Mike Robinson, Luke Trice, David Wolff and Collin Cook. Not only did the team win bragging rights for a full year; they also won a spot on the coveted “V-Cup” trophy, named after Dr. Carolyn Villarrubia, Devereux Texas’ executive medical director.
Out on the course, golfers had fun with several contests, including a new Hawaiian-themed chip-in contest, in which golfers were challenged with chipping their ball into the “lagoon” to be entered into a drawing for the grand prize. Geoff Seaman won the prize — a 32” LG TV, and in an act of generosity, donated the TV to the Devereux Residential Treatment program, inspired by the two residential clients who spoke at the dinner following the tournament.
Rick Gornto won the $500 raffle prize for hitting the green on his first try at hole number 14. Continuing the theme of generosity, however, Gornto also donated his winnings to the two Devereux clients who spoke at the dinner.
Also added this year was a chance to win a $100 voucher for the silent auction by hitting the fairway in one shot on hole number 10.
The Lexus Champions for Charity Golf Tournament raffle prize, donated for the 13th year running by Lexus of Clear Lake, went to lucky raffle winner David Snediker. His incredible win includes three days of golf at Pebble Beach Golf Links, The Links at Spanish Bay and Spyglass Hill Golf Course.
Devereux Texas Executive Director Pam Reed thanked everyone who was a part of the day for making this year’s event a successful one.
“Kids who didn’t think they’d go to college … are, thanks to you. On behalf of all of Devereux, thank you so much,” Reed said.
