Friends Life Care Recognizes the Importance of Member Meetings
(PRWEB) April 02, 2014 -- Friends Life Care encourages community engagement through its continued commitment to the well-being and education of its members. Members enjoy themselves, while learning something new – all while connecting with each other and staff at Friends Life Care member meetings. For this reason, the idea of a drum circle was used during spring 2014 Member Meetings as metaphor and activity which addresses all three of these important elements: enjoyment; learning; and connecting. Instruments were provided by the facilitator, Deke Kincade, along with basic exercises in call and response. As the group listened to each other, the musical conversation grew. Research shows that music reduces stress while the drum circle creates a sense of community when playing music together, even for those who have never played an instrument before. New Member Elise Pear says drumming is fun. “I make it a point to attend a live music event each week. This event was different because you get to participate while listening to the music. It’s fun.”
The member meetings are held quarterly at various locations in the Philadelphia region including the Wilmington, DE area. Topics vary and include “Eye Health”, “Fall Prevention,” “Line Dancing,” etc. Topics are chosen based on innovative techniques in health and wellness as well as subject categories that engage members while having fun. “We want our members to come out and socialize, maybe meet some new members, talk with the staff and ask questions,” says Director of Care Coordination Barbara Krause. Krause says creating a regular dialogue with members allows FLC to provide information to members while collecting feedback.
