GDUSA Selects 2014 Graphic Designers To Watch and Students To Watch; Half-Century Tradition Continues to Spotlight Creative Leaders
New York NY (PRWEB) February 13, 2014 -- Graphic Design USA (GDUSA) has released its selection of the 2014 “People To Watch.” This year's list of 25 leaders includes Chip Kidd, the nation's preeminent book cover designer; Josh Higgins of Facebook who was Design Director for the 2012 Obama campaign; Michael Gough who is VP of Experience Design at Adobe; and Liz Danico, the newly minted Creative Director of NPR.
The full selections, with profiles and interviews, appear in GDUSA magazine, January/February 2014, as well as the magazine's website, http://www.gdusa.com and its free iPad App. Also included is a list of Past People To Watch, which reads very much like a Hall of Fame -- the early decades include legendary graphic designers like Milton Glaser, Saul Bass, Lou Dorfsman and Massimo Vignelli while more recent years have featured the likes of Stefan Sagmeister, Jessica Hische, Michael Bierut, Jessica Walsh, Sean Adams, Margo Chase and many more.
The criteria for being selected by GDUSA editors: “These are individuals we have come to know and respect for a combination of talent, leadership, success, newsworthiness and community service. In a field so deep in talent and broad in numbers, this is clearly a subjective process. Still, for five decades, it has seemed to work out pretty well: the roster of past participants is star-studded, to say the least. The 2014 group adds to the shine.”
In addition to the selections and profiles, the editors of GDUSA asked the group for, among other things, their insights into the future shape or direction of “Graphic Design” as art, communication and business. The consensus view, says GDUSA Editor Gordon Kaye: “Our 2014 People To Watch are largely optimistic about the future of graphic design because they see design as having a more important role than ever in American commerce and culture.”
The January/February 2014 GDUSA magazine also includes an annual feature entitled “Students To Watch.” Here, with the help of America's leading art and design schools, the magazine identifies 25 up-and-coming design students on the verge of entering the profession. Schools whose students are represented this year include: Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), School of Visual Arts (SVA), Pratt Institute, Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), Academy of Art University, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI), California College of the Arts (CCA), School of Advertising Art (SAA), Drexel University's Westphal College, and others.
The Students To Watch feature is sponsored by The Creative Group (http://www.creativegroup.com), a leading specialized staffing agency placing interactive, design, marketing, advertising and public relations professionals with a variety of firms.
