Harris Federal Honors ‘Federal Hero’ Moms in Video Contest
Lexington, KY (PRWEB) May 15, 2015 -- Right on time for Mother’s Day and the start of national Public Servant Recognition Week, the Harris Federal Law Firm is pleased to announce the winners of its first “My Mom Is A Federal Hero” video contest.
As the Office of Personnel Management reports, nearly 43 percent of the federal workforce today is comprised of women, or approximately 781,000 non-seasonal, full-time permanent employees.
As a firm that serves federal employees across the country, Harris Federal sought to honor those women who balance both their demanding jobs and family obligations by holding its inaugural “My Mom Is A Federal Hero” contest.
The firm invited children of federally employed moms from anywhere in the U.S. to submit short videos describing why they believed their mom was a “federal hero.” The videos were posted on the firm’s website for a two-week period and voted on through social media.
Camryn Cross, a 12-year-old from Washington, D.C., claimed the contest’s top prize after receiving the most votes for her video tribute to her mother, Mika, a federal human resources policy strategist at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
In the 21-second video, Camryn describes her mother as being a federal hero “because she served in the U.S. Army and now helps federal agencies support employees and working families.”
By claiming the top prize, Camryn won a $1,000 Amazon gift card for her mother.
The contest’s runner-up honors went to Bennett Billings of Michigan, age 4, and Jala Morrow of Mississippi, age 20. They each won $100 Amazon gift cards for their mothers.
In his video, Bennett said his mother, Laura, a U.S. Postal Service Clerk, is a federal hero “because I love her.”
Jala described her mother, a research chemist for the Army Corps of Engineers, as being a federal hero because “she conducts experiments that ensure the waterways, sewers and plants are free of contaminants.”
Other videos featured in the contest included:
• Jenna Barker, age 9, Florida – Jenna’s mom, Jacqui, is a public affairs specialist at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division and a member of Federally Employed Women. Jenna said her mother “fought for our freedoms and is now fighting for my future. She is a leader and she fights for women’s equality.”
• Kayla Shaw, age 6, California – Kayla’s mom, Sara, serves as an administrative support assistant at the Naval Postgraduate School. Kayla said her mom is a hero because “she makes me feel strong and healthy and she always helps me.”
• Gavin Briggs, age 4, California – Gavin’s mom, Lacey, is a U.S. Postal Service employee. According to Gavin, his mom is a hero because she takes the time to “do everything” with him.
